Teleoperation

Teleoperation means a person controls a robot through an interface. The operator may be separated from the robot by distance or a protective barrier.

How it works

Operator commands become motion, while images and other feedback support decisions. In the ALOHA project, human demonstrations also provide data for learning manipulation.

Where to start

Consider teleoperation for collecting task examples or activities that still require human decisions. Always distinguish manually controlled and autonomous parts of a demonstration.

Limits and what to verify

Communication delay, limited visibility and connection loss affect usability. Remote control does not itself make a system autonomous.

Before requesting a quote

Ask about supported interfaces, visual feedback and behaviour after connection loss. Confirm teleoperation equipment and software for the specific configuration; availability cannot be inferred from a model name.
